Rugby returns to South Africa on Saturday 26 September 2020, but the question remains; will player take a knee for BLM?
Springbok Captain, Siya Kolisi was non-committal on Friday (25 September) about whether he would take a knee to support the Black Lives Matter movement that seeks racial justice.
"There are various incentives people can do to show their support" stated Siya Kolisi who two years ago became the first black player to captain the Springboks.
"We, as professionals are not going to judge each others actions. I expect my team to respect my decision as I will respect theirs."
The failure of eight South Africans to take a knee before a English Premiership fixture angered South African Sports Minister, Nathi Mthethwa.
Eleven of the Sales Sharks starter remained standing before their match against Harlequins, including Springbok World Cup winners Faf de Klerk and Lood de Jager.
Mthethwa stated; "They wore t-shirts to support the movement but failed to kneel, so I contacted SA Rugby and questioned President Mark Alexander. Racist behavior will not be tolerated and the SA Rugby President stated that they will address the matter and announce their views."
